We may train our dogs but it is the heart of the dog
that has the most to teach. A dog is born already knowing in his heart what it
takes us a lifetime to learn. It’s in his heart to teach us.
To each us that love is unconditional and given
freely, and sometimes yes, you have to let go. That it’s ok to act silly in a
crowd of strangers and to not take yourself too seriously, others don’t. That
within you lies the courage to run through the mud puddles of life, unafraid to
get your paws wet.
That true friends don’t care what you own or how fancy
your collar is, only that you’re there for them when the chips are down.
That sometimes silence is golden, a bark can deliver
the pain of a bite. Some words are best left unspoken. That some of the best
days are spent in pursuit of simple pleasures. Soaking up the sun walking in
the rain or enjoying a good belly rub.
That each day is a new adventure with a script left to
be written. The past is done and the future is not a given. That life truly is
too short but it’s the quality of a life well lived, not the quantity. That in
the end it is those closest to you that matter … the ones you can wrap your
paws around. We have much to learn … from the heart of the dog.
