I knew that time was getting short; your end would not
be long,
And though I thought that I’d be sad, *I’m tough, I’m
brave, I’m strong*.
Today you finally went away, the house lies quiet and
still,
No muddy paw prints in the hall, no tea-time bowl to
fill.
I sit and see your empty bed,
Your lead beside the door,
I try my best but can’t ignore,
That space upon the floor.
Although I saw the end was near,
I guess I never knew,
The day your heart would beat its last,
My heart would tear in two.
