Without You

It’s my first Christmas without you; there’s a void in my heart.
I was always the apple of your eye, and I was right from the start.
From the very first time I brought you home, til I laid you down to rest,
You were always by my side, simply put, you were the best.

I miss that look that you would give, when you knew I had a treat.
And the way I always felt secure, with your head on top of my feet.
Christmas time was always special, our favorite time of year.
Full of treats and toys and gifts, and hearts full of cheer.

But this year is very different, unlike any Christmas I've ever had.
Instead of having a blast with you, I'm lonely and I'm sad.
I even hung your stocking up, the same place it was before.
And put your picture in a wreath, and hung it on the door.

Christmas time in heaven as you decorate God's throne.
Hope he gives you all your heart’s desires, and lots of marrow bones.
Yes, it’s my saddest Christmas ever; really wishing you were here.
Wagging your tail, giving me hugs, and licking away my tears!
