Bigger and better shelters are not the answer.
More and more nonprofit rescue groups are not the
answer.
Slamming “the pound” for being the pound is not the
answer.
The answers have not changed:
Spay and neuter your pets.
Stop the indiscriminate breeding, selling, buying,
exploitation, and dumping of companion animals.
Strengthen humane laws and prosecute abusers and
neglecters.
Ban puppy mills and regulate the living hell out of
backyard breeders.
Incentivize people to keep caring for their companions
at home even during tough economic and personal times.
Projecting blame for shelter killing solely on those charged
by the community with cleaning up the mess does not address the source of the
mess:
irresponsibility within the community.
