Wichtige Informationen / Important information:

This blog is not only a collection for all of you who, like me, love poems, texts and simply everything about dogs, it is also intended to give recognition to all authors and artists who with their work give us great pleasure, sometimes solace and who also want to open our eyes to the abuse and neglect of animals.

Until one has loved an animal, part of one's soul remains unawakened.

My sunshine doesn’t come from the skies; it comes from the love in my dog’s eyes.

No one can fully understand the meaning of love unless he’s owned a dog. A dog can show you more honest affection with a flick of his tail than a man can gather through a lifetime of handshakes.
(Gene Hill (1928-1997))

*****

Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made.

(Roger Andrew Caras (1928 - 2001))

If you don’t own a dog, at least one, there is not necessarily anything wrong with you, but there may be something wrong with your life.
(Roger Andrew Caras (1928 - 2001))

For me a house or an apartment becomes a home when you add one set of four legs, a happy tail, and that indescribable measure of love that we call a dog.
(Roger Andrew Caras (1928 - 2001))

I am Rescue

I am Rescue
I pick up your castoffs and hold them in my arms;
I unhook with your permission your castoffs from their chains and abandonment;
I take your castoffs to be medically treated, altered and brought back to health;
I remind your castoffs of what commands they once knew or teach them what they should know;
I gently wash away the stench and smell and dirt accumulated on your castoffs and kiss them gently;
I foster your castoffs and try not to fall too far in love with them so that I can let go when that forever home is found;
I wipe away my own tears when the day comes that your castoff
leaves me to go live a forever life in a loving environment; and
... sometimes I hold that regal dignified furry head of your
castoff while he makes the final trip to the Bridge and tell him
that he is loved at this moment more than he has ever been
loved before. ...

I am RESCUE.

(Evening) Prayer for the dog in the shelter

Tonight I go to sleep with my dogs. My long legged lurcher (an adopted rescue) is roaching against the pillows. The new little fellow (another adopted rescue) is contentedly asleep in his crate in the closet. My older girl Lucy lies on the dog bed by my side, tennis ball still in sight of sleeping eyes. My boy Linus spoons against me. Time for bed. The quiet, contented sighs of dogs who feel safe and loved … secure and at peace. As my eyes begin to close, I picture a dog in a shelter I have been working with.

At the end of a session I spend some time with her in her kennel. I hear the barking and whining of the other dogs that make her alert her head and ears. I can see how no matter how well things are arranged for her; she is still surprised and alerted by the passing of another dog. She is dog reactive. We make good strides but there are still challenges for her.  Each day after I work with her and bring her to the gate of the kennel, she hesitates, then quietly follows me in through the gate. She has come far with her training. She loves to learn. She has done a brilliant job today. She lets me brush her. We play a game of search for the tennis ball under the blanket on her bed. Then it is time to go. I close the gate and secure the lock. She sits and watches me as I go. I am haunted.

For our loved ones, the heart never forgets

I shall see beauty,
but none to match your living grace.

I shall hear music,
but none as sweet as the song with which you loved me.

I shall fill my days,
but I shall not, cannot, forget.

Sleep soft, dear friend ...

To my dog

I would not leave you behind for anything.
I will carry you over hard times like you have carried me through mine.

Today I will be thankful

Today I will be thankful for all the paw prints on my floor & the slobbery kisses on my face & the hair on my clothes.
For there will come a day when there is far too much room in our bed and these days will be profoundly missed.

Quote

Compassion for animals is intimately
connected with goodness of character;
and it may be confidently asserted
that he who is cruel to animals
cannot be a good man.

(Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860))

So God made a dog

And on the 9th Day
God looked down on his wide eyed children and said they need a companion.
So God made a dog

God said I need somebody to wake up and give kisses, pee on a tree, sleep all day, wake up again, give more kisses, and then stay up till midnight basking in the glow of the television set.
So God made a dog

God said I need somebody willing to sit, then stay, then roll over then with no ego or complaint dress in hats they do not need and costumes they do not understand.
I need somebody who can break wind without a first thought or second thought.
Who can chase tails, sniff crotches, fetch sticks and lift spirits with a lick.
Somebody no matter what you didn’t do, or couldn’t take, or didn’t win, or couldn’t make will love you without judgment just the same.
So God made a dog

Quote

Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day.

(John Grogan)

I’ve loved you all my life

I’ve loved you all my life.
… please don’t throw me away because I’m old.
Keep me beside you until I’m ready to leave this body behind.

(Ellen Graben)

Are dogs the owners of humans?

  1. During a given day, a dog with run, eat, drink, sleep, lounge, bark, cuddle, stick its head out the window and play with other dogs. A human will get up way too early, eat a rushed meal, worked way too hard for little pay, run errands, pay bills, maybe sneak in a beer or two and pass out weak and weary. Judges: 1 – 0 Dogs
  2. When a dog has to go, they don’t have to wait on any lines, seek out a rest room or even wash their hands afterward. Even if they try to cover it up with their hind legs, they know their human will be there to pick up the waste. There is another one for the dog.
  3. Humans have to court a girl with a courageous opening line, a well-planned out and many times expensive dinner and then fingers crossed they get a goodnight kiss. A male dog walks up to female and does the deed. 3 – 0 Dogs.
  4. Here is one victory for us humans … We live a lot longer.
  5. Everyone wants to pet a dog, rub its belly and give great big warm hugs. Humans, not so much.
  6. Dogs always get doggie treats. Humans only get to eat treats until their metabolism starts to slow down and then only on special occasions.
  7. The leash. I think this is a plot by the canine community to give us humans the impression that we still have some control. I don’t know that they even need it.
  8. Dogs can be naked all the time. Except Halloween when we feel the urge to dress them up in the most embarrassing thing ever. In most places society still shuns on that for humans.
  9. Dogs can fall asleep anywhere. I mean anywhere.
  10. Dogs are lovers not fighters. Even when they play fight, love always wins at the end. We could learn a lesson from that.
  11. Dogs will always be by your side. Not matter what you do, they forgive and remain loyal. Again, something we could learn from.
  12. Humans have to bathe every day. At least society puts pressure on us to. Dogs bathe about every week or two.
  13. Dogs are so cool, they usually only need one Name.

I think it is clear, dogs may be more superior than humans.

One thing is certain, the partnership between humans and canines is very special and one that should never be taken advantage of.

To man’s best friend, we salute you, love you and will always be by your side.

When I am old and grey

When I am old and grey
my step might be slower.

I may not hear as well.
I may not see as well.
I may not feel as well.

But …

My love will be the same.
My devotion will be the same.
My appreciation will be the same.

My heart and soul are grateful
for all that you have done and do …

When I am old and grey.
