Getting on a dog’s good side might seem as easy as having a pocket full of treats and knowing the trick to a good belly rub, but our four-legged friends aren’t always easy to please. They’re quick to judge a person’s character, and there are some people they simply don’t like.

#1 - Tone of Voice

Dogs might not be fluent in your language, but they’re experts at picking up tone of voice. A scientific study published in 2016 found that dogs’ brains react based on the tone of voice of the person talking to them.

In the study, the reward centers in the dogs’ brains became activated when the person used a high-pitched, happy voice. The dogs were glad to greet the happy-sounding person, but they reacted negatively or ignored people who spoke with deep or angry-sounding voices.

Two Heroes

I was looking to get a new pup. So, I asked my very best friend.

He said get a German Shepherd; they are loyal til the end.

He sent me to this breeder he knew. I went over to his home.

He had a litter of brown and black pups in a large pen is where they roamed.

I didn’t know a lot about the breed, but I did see one in the park.

He always guarded the water bowl and had a real loud bark!

I asked him lots of questions, this breeder knew his stuff.

He picked up one in particular and said this guy is really tough.

Has a friend ever confided in you that the loss of their dog caused more grief than the death of a close relative? Have you ever felt this way yourself?

Society has conditioned us to feel ashamed of such emotions, but research suggests we are more than justified when we deeply mourn the loss of a furry friend.

When our first family dog, Spike passed away, my father suffered terribly. He would come home from work and just sit in his car, unable to face walking through the door without our little Poodle mix to greet him. He took long walks and visited online pet loss support groups. He woke up crying in the night.

At iHeartDogs.com we often write about coping with the loss of a beloved pet. We do this because we understand that saying goodbye is one of the hardest things you will ever have to do, and we hope that somehow our words can provide a bit of comfort. Life And Death Cycle ...

Some people’s whole lives revolve around their dogs, tailoring their work and leisure schedules to meet their dog’s every need. Even their relationships tend to reflect their canine activities and acquaintances. Guten Tag,

Im Fokus steht dabei eine vollwertige, gesunde Ernährung, die auf künstliche Zusätze verzichten kann. Wissenschaftlich, aber leicht zu verstehen und sofort umzusetzen.

Always in My Way

This German Shepherd is driving me nuts.

Always in the way, and up my butt!

Even when I only move two feet away, he has to be beside me, he just won't stay!

Probably easier to go under, his back is so high.

Hunde ahmen sinnloses Verhalten nach

Eine neue Studie zeigt, dass Hunde sinnloses Verhalten von Menschen übernehmen und imitieren. Bisher waren solche Überimitationen nur von Menschen bekannt.

Dass Hunde vom Menschen lernen, ist nichts Neues: Sie können zu Jagd- oder Blindenhunden ausgebildet werden, sie werden zur Stubenreinheit erzogen oder lernen apportieren und Stöckchen holen – häufig passiert das gegen eine Belohnung wie Leckerlis oder Knochen. Nun haben Forscher*innen der Veterinärmedizinischen Universität Wien in einem Fachjournal eine neue Studie veröffentlicht, in der sie herausfanden, dass die vierbeinigen Freund*innen auch menschliches Verhalten nachmachen, welches an sich sinnlos ist und zu nichts führt.

Diese Form des Nachahmens wird als Überimitation bezeichnet und ist eine Form des sozialen Lernens, welches bisher nur beim Menschen bekannt war. Bei der Überimitation ahmt eine Person eine Aktion oder Handlung nach, obwohl sie davon ausgeht, dass diese Aktion überflüssig ist. Es handelt sich also um eine Art Nachahmungsautomatismus, den man unter anderem häufig bei Kindern beobachten kann, die das Verhalten erwachsener Personen imitieren. Warum man überimitiert, ist noch nicht ausreichend geklärt. Eine Vermutung: Kinder halten die sinnlosen Handlung doch für notwendig, um bestimmte Ziele zu erreichen.

I hear a sound that's familiar. No, I don't like it at all.

Droplets of water splashing like a deep woods waterfall.

It's coming from that room down the hallway. The one dad calls his retreat.

Where that fun roll of paper hangs on the wall and there is a handle on the back of the seat.

Here comes mom with that look in her eyes. This is not going to be fun.

I have only one option left. Excuse me while I take off and ruuuuuunnn!!

The kids are trying to catch me. Mom has her track shoes on too.
