Wichtige Informationen / Important information:

This blog is not only a collection for all of you who, like me, love poems, texts and simply everything about dogs, it is also intended to give recognition to all authors and artists who with their work give us great pleasure, sometimes solace and who also want to open our eyes to the abuse and neglect of animals.

... lieb ich umso mehr den Hund

Menschen sind
oft unerträglich -
zieh’n sich häufig
durch den Schlund.
Darum könnt ihr
mir auch glauben,
lieb ich umso mehr
den Hund.

God created …

While God was in the midst of creation, He anticipated a great need would exist upon the face of the whole earth. He knew man would need a special companion; someone to walk at his side; always quick to forgive, with a patient and loving nature; a fierce protector, yet gentle with children. quick to learn and eager to serve those with special needs. A friend to soldiers and police, willing to give their all in the line of duty. Above all, God anticipated mans need for a trustworthy companion, a loyal friend, a friend for life. Yes, God knew precisely what man would need … so God created dogs.

A friend just like you

I just want to let you know
You mean the world to me
Only a heart as dear as yours
Would give so unselfishly

The many things you’ve done
All the times that you were there
Help me know deep down inside
How much you really care

Even tough I might not say
I appreciate all you do
Richly blessed is how I feel
Having a friend just like you

That’s what makes a dog

A bounder, a hounder, a pavement pounder
A wager & barker, a walk in the parker
An itch scratcher & throw-toy catcher
A chaser, a pacer, an eager embracer
A snoozer, refuser, a constant amuser
An appealing beggar, a loyal four-legger
A panter & flopper, a mud & hair dropper
A sinner, a winner, a wolfer of dinner
A chewer, a sniffer, an unfortunate wiffer
A protector, inspector & stick collector
A welcoming greeter, a chew-stick defeater
A collar wearer & affection sharer
A curler, a leaper, a company keeper
A pet to remember & family member
That’s what makes a dog!

Dogs

Big and small, short and tall,
we can’t help but love you all.
Who picks who? We will never know,
but there’s always something that says to us
“Take me home”.

Then you arrive, this bundle of fluff,
we ooh and ahh, we cuddle and fuss.
You are cute, you are cheeky,
you bark, play, pee and chew till you’re sleepy.

And that’s when we realize,
our home is your home,
an right from the start,
that moment we first met you,
you had stolen our heart.

I like dogs

I like dogs
Big dogs
Little dogs
Fat dogs
Doggy dogs
Old dogs
Puppy dogs
I like dogs
A dog that is barking over the hill
A dog that is dreaming very still
A dog that is running wherever he will
I like dogs.

Over the Rainbow Bridge you went

Over the Rainbow Bridge you went
I always knew you were heaven sent
I cherish our time spent together
Til we meet again … I love you forever!

Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption

Romans 8:21-23
(21st Century King James Version)

21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

23 And not only they, but ourselves also, who have the firstfruits of the spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

The top ten reasons to adopt an older dog (3)

1.  They’re past the “puppy stage.” With an older dog, you won’t have to worry about all the craziness that often comes along with puppyhood. Tons of excess energy, chewing, messes, and the like are just distant memories for older dogs.
2.  They have so much love left to give! C’mon… who doesn’t adore doggie kisses?!
3.  What you see is what you get. There’s no guesswork when it comes to adopting an older dog. “How big will he get?” “What will her personality be like?” “How much energy will he have?” The answers to these questions should be apparent upon the first meeting with an older dog.
4.  You are (literally!) saving precious lives! Each year, 2.7 million perfectly adoptable animals are euthanized because there are not enough homes for them. When you adopt, you are saving 2 lives — the one that you adopted and the one who will fill his space. Need we say more?

5.  They’re less demanding of your time.
Older dogs tend to be mellower and more easy-going than their younger counterparts and many are perfectly content just hanging out!

Quotes by Gene Hill

I can’t think of anything that brings me closer to tears than when my old dog – completely exhausted after a hard day in the field – limps away from her nice spot in front of the fire and comes over to where I’m sitting and puts her head in my lap, a paw over my knee, and closes her eyes, and goes back to sleep. I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve that kind of friend.

*****

Who said you can not buy happiness, when you are thinking about puppies

*****

No one can fully understand the meaning of love unless he’s owned a dog. A dog can show you more honest affection with a flick of his tail than a man can gather through a lifetime of handshakes.

*****

We never really own a dog as much as he owns us.
(from “Brown Dog, Tears & Laughter”)

*****

Whoever said you can't buy happiness forgot little puppies.

(Gene Hill (1928-1997))

I thought of you today

I thought of you today, but that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday and days before that too.
I think of you in silence, I often speak your name.
All I have are memories and your picture in a frame.
Your memory is a keepsake from which I’ll never part.
God has you in His arms, I have you in my heart.

Enjoy the Golden Years

I may not see well, but I know you are near
I may not hear well, but our love is unspoken
I may not move well, but I’m close to you
The best moments in life are right beside you

Enjoy the Golden Years

Grieve not

Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me as if I were beside you.
I loved you so …

‘Twas heaven here with you.

(Isla Paschal Richardson)

A good dog never dies

A good dog never dies.
He always stays.
He walks besides you on crisp autumn days when frost is on the fields
and winter’s drawing near.
His head is within our hand in his old way.

Still … missing you

Still can’t believe that you are gone.
Your spirit’s light so brightly shone.

Your leaving took a heavy toll.
Still feel your love deep in my soul.

Still look to heaven and ask why.
Still find no answers just blue sky.

Still feel you with me, night and day.
Still don’t know why you couldn’t stay.

One day I know, we’ll meet again.
Still, it’s so hard to wait till then.

Our final days together

I’m old and this old body aches, I feel my many years
and I don’t get around so well you see
But there is still some life left in this worn out dog of yours
these days I just need lots of TLC

You got me when I was a little puppy and so cute
and we’ve become a family, and I know
That years go by so quickly and we’ve had the best of times
and you’ll stand with me till it’s time to go

I may not make it to the door in time to go outside
but you are glad to clean up every mess
I’m just a little slower getting’ ‘round these days it seems
so thanks for bearing with me, you’re the best

If you have done much chasing of bobwhite quail, you will recall days when you could not hit a flushing blanket with all four corners going in different directions. And when, after repeated misses, one of the old dogs turned from his lingering point and indignantly stared at you. Under such circumstances, I have seen a variety of eyes eloquently pleading for me to get on the stick or go home and sign up for skeet lessons.

Wer?

Wer geht mit Dir auch steile Pfade
und steht für Dich im Elend grade?
Wer fällt Dir niemals in den Rücken
und will Dich jeden Tag verzücken?

Wer würd’ Dir nie was Schlechtes tun,

Boomer the Bulldog

Boomer is our Bulldog
And he’s happy as can be
Whether riding in the backseat
Or sitting at our knee
He has some rights, he tells us
To, the things we all enjoy
Rom a ride through the country
To a new and squeaky toy
But his joy is not all
That he brings to one and all
His charm, strength and beauty
Sound out with clarion call
Talking to his neighbor dogs
Or as a sentry in the night
He gives us confidence
That all in life is right.

My secret heart

Over a decade of life shared with you,
Sharing some secrets, which only you knew.
Now the bill is due, time has taken its part,
Our days left are few, my secret heart.

One lick from you with that puppy breath,
Loved you then never thought about death.
But you with your wisdom have shown me to start
Realizing I must soon say good bye, to my secret heart.

Shyann

My best friend is truly misunderstood
She comes from nature like the earth and wood.
All the misconceptions about her, she must defend
They can't see, she has the gentleness of the wind.

My friend is mischevious; that's not just a rumor
But it's only her way of showing a sense of humor.
She has love and respect for the human race
Which never seems to be returned; what a disgrace.

Sweet sweet dog

Today
sweet dog
I’m proud of you.
Today
you didn’t
bank
or jumg on me.
When I said sit,
you smiled and sat.

Today
sweet dog
I’m proud of yu.
You didn’t
leave mud
on my bed.
You are such
a sweet
sweet dog.
Let me kiss
your fuzzy head.

Over the Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is everywhere
but no-one can it see
Even when I have gone over it
I´ll be with you all the time

I like this life here on the earth
but when the day will come
my angel fold me in his wings
and I can find my peace

In Rainbow Land there is no pain,
no fear, no worries, no rain
The butterflies fly all around
we are happy all the time

keine Angst, keine Sorgen, keinen Regen
Die Schmetterlinge fliegen überall
wir sind glücklich alle Zeit
