Missing you at Christmastime (14)
At Christmastime and ever since, the day that you were taken,
the lovely memories you've left, have never been forsaken.
They'll always stay as vivid, just as though you still were here,
and especially are cherished, at this special time of year.
There's never a day goes by, without joyful thoughts of you,
for, no one could bring happiness, in the way you used to do.

Martha’s Christmas Miracle
Martha was sitting in her living room watching
television this Christmas Eve, alone as she had been for the last five years.
All of her children had married and moved to the four corners of the nation,
her youngest, a surgery resident at the Vet School across the state had planned
on coming home, but had been assigned to work the emergency clinic and couldn't
find a replacement. Martha told herself that having Sally working to help the
sick and injured animals this Christmas Eve was worth being alone, besides,
Sally would be driving over for Christmas dinner the next afternoon.
All the animals had been fed and now were safely in
either the kennel building or lazily laying around the house. Martha had to
stop to think how many dogs she had at her house this Christmas, she sighed
when she realized there were 16. She did rescue and the number of dogs was
always changing with some dogs being adopted, and new abandoned dogs coming in.
Feeling overwhelmed by the number of dogs she had and all the dogs still left
in shelters to die because there was no room for them in rescue, Martha
seriously wondered if she should stop working rescue. If she didn't have all
these dogs, she could have flown to any of her other children's homes for the
holidays to be with family. Besides, the heartbreak of seeing each dog in such
need was beginning to really weigh on her.

Now that you're no longer here, I hope you'll always know,
your memory is with me, everywhere I go.
Christmas has descended now, and happily I find,
that thoughts of all the fun we shared, are always on my mind.
I wish you peace at Christmas time, wherever you may be,
and thank you for the memories. They mean the world to me.

Missing you at Christmastime (12)
Christmas brings us peace and joy, tut it brings us sadness too,
and just like many others will, I'll spend it without you.
I miss you more at Christmas, than any other time of year,
my greatest Christmas gift by far, would be just to have you here.
But I know you're within a world of light, where you softly lie asleep,
and within my heart will always stay, Christmas memories that I'll keep.

We Bridge kids were thinking as always of you.
We'd seen how the holidays weren't bright this year,
Heard you whisper so often, "I wish you were
here!"
We know how you wish you could just stay in bed

When all celebrate with their loved ones so near...
Unless they have loved ones on this side this year.

Now that Christmastime is here, there are so many thoughts of you,
of how you were so thoughtful, and so kind and loving too.
This World is not the same, now that you aren't here to share,
the joy of the season, that surrounds us everywhere.
Nothing ever could compare even though it's Christmastime,
to the lovely memories, that you've left, within this heart of mine.

Shelter compiles exact reasons for huge spike in surrenders after Christmas
Last year [2016], the Dogs Trust rehoming centers in Glasgow
and West Calder, Scotland received 703 calls from pet owners looking to
surrender their dogs in the weeks immediately following the holidays.
Staff members fielded excuses such as “I got him as a
secret Santa present” and “She wags her tail far too much.”
The owners were clearly unmoved by the rescue’s slogan
“A dog is for life, not just for Christmas.”

King of the Track
I went with my mom to the pet store today.
We needed dog food and new Frisbees for play.
When mom pulled into her parking place,
a man and woman were in each other’s face.
Seems she had taken his parking spot.
These Christmas shoppers make a full parking lot.
Mom leashed me up and said, Let’s get in the store.
We headed in as she locked her doors.
On the way in I saw a strange sight,
six tall skinny dogs wearing harnesses so tight.
I heard a woman saying these dogs used to race.
This one right here was always in first place.
