Wichtige Informationen / Important information:

This blog is not only a collection for all of you who, like me, love poems, texts and simply everything about dogs, it is also intended to give recognition to all authors and artists who with their work give us great pleasure, sometimes solace and who also want to open our eyes to the abuse and neglect of animals.

There are dog owners and there are dog parents

There are dog owners and there are dog parents.
You hear a lot about how dog parents aren’t the same as human parents, because they can’t truly understand caring for someone so much.
Let me tell you that no one thinks loving a child is on the same level as loving a dog.

But you can parent a dog. You can love him with your whole heart. You can value him, and see his worth. Your heart can be filled with so much love that it aches at times.

You bathe him, and make a game out of drying him off always sneaking in kisses as he makes a mess in your bathroom, all the while not minding because you love this sweet nugget. You read all of the nutrition facts and research the best food for him and always ensure he has more than enough, even though there are cheaper less-nutritional options.

You worry about if he has friends, and always makes sure he can have playdates or another little buddy to pal around with so when you’re not around you know he is content.
You train him. You teach him how to eat, how to play, how to be potty-trained, and feel a pit in your stomach when you have to chastise him for not following the rules.

Why dogs come into our lives

Dogs enter our life and change us forever, not only they teach us what unconditional love is, but they have an incredible power to radically change our life, and make us better human beings. They are so much more than pets; they are companions, friends, a source of comfort, and sometimes even a great therapist during a bad day. They may be a responsibility that others cannot bear, but for those of us who have experienced what it means to have a dog, they are family.

Probably often we wonder why this particular dog enters our life and does it at a particular time of our life. Twist of fate, or perhaps just a coincidence? Regardless of whether you thought about choosing a breed, or just adopting any dog, what matters is when and why the dog appeared in your life. Was it a gift – a surprise from a loved one, or a form of consolation after a difficult period, illness or loss. And what happened next? And I assume that contrary to appearances many wonderful things happened.

Letter from Pit Bull’s rescuer to her former owner is as heartbreaking as it is heartwarming

After a Pit Bull was abandoned by her former owner in an apartment in New York she was taken to a shelter. The dog named Cathy had been used for breeding and been badly abused. Although her future looked bleak, she was rescued and recovered thanks to her new family. Her new guardian wrote this open letter on Manhattan’s Craigslist to Cathy’s former owner. It’s a truly heartwarming account of Cathy’s life after her rescue:

“3 yrs ago you were evicted from [address redacted, eds.]. I have your dog. (Lower East Side)

“On Feb 9th 2011, you were evicted from an apartment at [number redacted] Catherine St and your old red pit bull was seized by animal control and taken to the kill shelter. She was really skinny and had bad skin infections, and had been bred A LOT. She’d even had a Caesarian, judging by the scar. They said at the kill shelter she was 12 years old. She also had a lopsided face and it looked like there were a few cigarette burns on her head/ears.”

They tell you ...

They tell you not to cry.
They tell you that it's just a dog, not a human being.
They tell you that the pain will be over.
They tell you that the animals don't know that they have to die.
They tell you that it's important not to let him suffer.
They tell you that you can have another one.
They tell you it's going to happen to you.
They tell you that there is more pain.
But they don't know how many times you've looked into your dog’s eyes.

Pope Francis said that all animals can go to Heaven!

This story is something you should be happy about because according to Pope Francis, animals can go to heaven after all.

Here’s how it came about. Pope Francis talked to a boy who is mourning the death of his dog. He told him not to worry because animals can go to heaven.

His exact words, were … “one day, we will see our animals again in the eternity of Christ,” and “paradise is open to all of God’s creatures.”

A lot of people are confused because there is a long-standing theological position that animals don’t have souls, meaning, they just stop exiting after their deaths – though this is not a doctrinal statement.

“If the Pope did mean that all animals go to heaven, then the implication is that animals have a soul, Christine Gutleben, the senior director of faith outreach at the Humane Society of the United States, told the Times.

And if that’s true, then we ought to seriously consider how we treat them. We have to admit that these are sentient beings, and they mean something to God.”
