Friend

Have you ever lost a friend,

One that didn’t speak?

Just loved you and trusted you

Every day of every week.

 

Did you ever lose a friend,

Not of the human kind?

One who didn’t see your faults,

And your flaws they didn’t mind.

 

Did you ever lose that friend,

Who was always by your side?

When you were in despair,

Comforted you when you cried.

 

Did you lose that furry friend,

The one you cannot replace?

Existing in your memories,

In your heart an empty space.

 

It hurts to have lost that friend,

Their lives are not that long.

So honour them and adopt again,

In that space, let another belong.
