Wichtige Informationen / Important information:

This blog is not only a collection for all of you who, like me, love poems, texts and simply everything about dogs, it is also intended to give recognition to all authors and artists who with their work give us great pleasure, sometimes solace and who also want to open our eyes to the abuse and neglect of animals.

His chair

I don't know where my owner went. Can you please help me find him, Sir?
He is kinda tall has real short hair and has camouflage colored fur.
I haven't seen him in three months or so. I remember him telling me bye.
He told me to take care of his family, and then he hugged me and said, “Love you big guy”.

He told me to protect them with my life, that's why I am here with them at the park.
I stand watch and guard them daily from things that go bump in the dark.
Loyalty is my main attribute. I will be his dog until I die.
Bravery is my main characteristic. Please don’t tell my family sometimes I cry.

My owner adopted me when he was fifteen years old. Nothing could keep us apart.
Then he started talking about something called the military, that thing called boot camp broke my heart.
He came home for just a visit, when his boot camp was done.
He spoiled me rotten for a couple weeks. Best time we ever had, man that was so much fun!

Next thing I knew he had to leave again. There went all of my joy.
But I must be strong I am here to protect his pretty wife and cute baby boy.
Don't try to come near either one of them. My jaws are real strong and I bite.
Don't think I don’t love my owner’s family, for them I would give up my life.

I guess that's what is ironic, to give your life for something you love.
That's what they say my owner is doing. Please watch over him, God above!
Everyone is acting strange today. Before we left his wife was decorating the house.
Friends and family had just come over; whispers were coming out of their mouth.

I even heard my owner’s name, that kinda made me sad.
It made me think how much I love him and all the good times we had!
Well I really must be going. It was nice talking to you,
Back to the house where my family lives and a Persian cat named Ramsey too.

Almost to the driveway, this part hurts so much.
My owner would sit on the front porch with me. He always had the gentlest touch.
Sometimes I imagine I see him sitting on that top step.
I pray for him to come home soon, that would be the best prayer answered yet.

Strangely I smell his scent strongly today with all these people around.
I would know his smell anywhere; I must be part Bloodhound!
As I bust into the living room, someone is in his favorite chair.
Nobody sits in my owner’s seat ever, I am gonna drag him out of there.

Good thing the back is towards the door. I can sneak up and make my attack.
Nobody sits in his chair; I will chew you up like a pupperoni doggie snack!
I turn the corner and slide on the rug. Look up and what do I see??
Oh my gosh, that's my owner, looking down at me!!!!

I jump up and straight into his arms with all four legs wrapped tight.
This is my owner I cry about in the middle of those long nights.
Thank you God for answering my prayers and keeping him safe from all harm.
Now that you are back here safe and sound, I am NEVER going to leave your strong arms!

(Jerry Wayne Baldwin; from “This K-9 of Mine”;
Author’s note:
“Dedicated to all military personnel past or present on two legs or four! Thank you for your service!”)
