Wichtige Informationen / Important information:

This blog is not only a collection for all of you who, like me, love poems, texts and simply everything about dogs, it is also intended to give recognition to all authors and artists who with their work give us great pleasure, sometimes solace and who also want to open our eyes to the abuse and neglect of animals.

I’m working to find the writers. If you do find your own work here, I would be grateful for an appropriate message. Then I’ll add a note (and/or a link) or will remove the text immediately. I look forward to hearing from you.

Neglected dog

The neglected dog looks such a sight! His coat is full of fleas!
Yet once he filled you with delight! He really loved to please!
The neglected dog has tapeworms, too! They’re ghastly to behold!
Yet once this dog showed love for you! He once was good as gold!
The neglected dog has matted hair and sores upon his feet!
Yet once you combed him with such care till he looked cool and neat!
The neglected dog has eyes that fall … He’s lost the will to live!
Yet once he answered every call! He had so much to give!
The neglected dog lies flat and still … He hasn’t fed in days!
Yet once you cared when he was ill! Now who cares if he prays!?
The neglected dog pleads for your love! Is that too hard a task!?
Yet once your love was quite enough! He didn’t need to ask!
The neglected dog has passed away … It’s too late … anyhow …
Though once you loved him day-by-day … Too late to pet him now …

Oh to be a dog

Oh to be a dog … if only for just one day.
Able to revel in all the simple pleasures that life has to offer.

To raise your nose to the wind, put your paws to the ground
and run like there’s no tomorrow.

King for a day … in the field of your dreams.

Why dogs love ear scratches

In 2014 the European Court of Justice (ECJ) decided that normally no copyrights are violated if website operators use so-called framed links. This happens for example when YouTube videos on a website are included.

Minty, don’t dig!

No more holes
Like upside-down moles!
Minty, don’t you dare dig, dog!

No more mucky paws
Making prints on the floors!
Minty, don’t you dare dig, dog!

No more shaggy coat
Black from tail to throat!
Minty, don’t you dare dig, dog!

… But if you really, really can’t stop:

Please bury your bone
Not my mobile phone!
Minty, please don’t dig, dog!

Faith, Hope and Charity

Sometimes I wonder what we are doing, why did we take it on?
Hard work and so much sadness, social and free time gone.

But looking into those sad eyes of that abandoned dog or cat,
And all the animals needing our help, couldn't turn away from that.

Friends and family rallied round and helped out where they could,
Our time and money gone to F.A.I.T.H., I think they understood.

Hopelessly devoted to you

I’ll scratch your itch and wipe your eyes.
I’ll clean your ears and towel you dry.
I’ll feed you twice and at your wish,
I’ll rinse and fill your water dish.
I’ll walk with you and play frisbee
I’ll sit with you and watch TV.
A doctors visit once a year
A swimming hole I know of near.
Toys I’ll buy and treats galore.
Kisses, hugs, and yes there’s more.
I’ll bathe and brush until you shine.
I’ll boast and brag that you’re all mine.
I’ll laugh and smile at all you do.
I’m hopelessly devoted to you.

The dog game (or: One more dog)

Why own a dog? There's a danger you know.
You can't own just one, for the craving will grow.

There's no doubt they're addictive, wherin lies the danger
While living with lots, you'll grow poorer and stranger.

One dog is not trouble, and two are so funny,
the third one is easy, the fourth one's a honey.

The fifth is delightful, the sixth one's a breeze.
You find you can live with a houseful, with ease.

I’ll get over on you

I am a Bulldog and want you to know,
I am AKC and can put on a show.
I’ll make you laugh like never before,
And leave you rolling all over the floor.
I am a Bulldog and want you to know,
I’ll take 1st place wherever we go.
One look at my face and you’ll understand,
One look at my face and you’ll be entranced.
I’ll enter your house, take over your couch
You may be upset with things that I do,
But I am a Bulldog and will get over on you.
I’ll chew on your shoe,
I’ll eat at your drapes,
I’ll put a hole in your sock,
and make you pull out the mop.
But I am a Bulldog and what you can do?
I am a Bulldog, I’ll get over on you!

Faithful to the End

With eye upraised his master’s look to scan,
The joy, the solace, and the aid of man:
The rich man’s guardian and the poor man’s friend,
The only creature faithful to the end.

We may not know where life’s path may lead us

We may not know where life’s path may lead us,
what lies beyond the bend in the road.

But with a good friend by your side …
all things are possible.

You know you’ve waited too long to find a mate when …

  • you think stripping is something you do to a terrier
  • you think nothing about loudly discussing studs and bitches in a fancy restaurant
  • the first thing you notice about a guy is what breed of dog he has
  • your biggest turn-off is a guy with an obnoxious untrained dog
  • you have ever ruled out a guy as a prospective date based on the breed of dog he owns
  • you dismiss all the guys your mother introduces you to as “not breeding quality”
  • you never could stick to a diet to impress a guy, but you can do it to get through that TDX track
  • your only nice jewelry features either dogs, dumbbells, or rosettes
  • you have a video on how to artificially inseminate your dog but last watched a dirty movie in junior high school
